Indiana 529 College Savings Plans

Two of the three Indiana 529 college savings programs are managed by Ascensus College Savings: The CollegeChoice 529 Direct and the CollegeChoice Advisor. The newest Indiana 529 plan is the CollegeChoice CD, which offers FDIC-insured savings options.

In September 2008, Upromise Investments, Inc., which was acquired by Ascensus College Savings in 2013, took over the management of the Indiana 529 Direct Savings Plan from JPMorgan, and it now features a year of enrollment option, eight individual portfolios using a variety of investment managers, and an FDIC-insured savings account from NexBank. Accounts can be linked to the Upromise Rewards service....

Two FDIC-insured options are offered in the CollegeChoice CD 529 Savings Plan: (1) fixed-rate CDs with one-year, two-year or three-year maturities, and (2) the Honors Savings Account, a high-yield savings account available from College Savings Bank, a Division of NexBank. The plan ceased offering InvestorSure CDs and CollegeSure CDs to investors as of August 2, 2016 and October 21, 2016. InvestorSure CDs and CollegeSure CDS issued prior to those dates will continue to be managed and serviced by CollegeSure until their maturity dates. As of May 31, 2024, the CollegeChoice CD 529 Savings Plan is closed to new enrollments....

Advisor Sold Plans

Upromise Investments, Inc., which was acquired by Ascensus College Savings in 2013, became manager of the Indiana Indiana Advisor 529 Savings Plan in September 2008, replacing JPMorgan. The plan uses BlackRock, Schwab, DFA, American Funds, T.Rowe Price, Carillon Tower Advisors and Vanguard funds in its Year of Enrollment Option and mutual funds from various investment managers in its individual portfolios. The plan also offers an FDIC-insured Savings Portfolio from NexBank and the Capital Preservation Portfolio invested in the New York Life Guaranteed Interest Account. INvestABLE Indiana is offered through the National ABLE Alliance. INvestABLE is established under the state's ABLE legislation and Section 529A to encourage and assist individuals and families in saving private funds for the purpose of supporting individuals with disabilities.
