Citigroup affluent survey shows use of 529 plans

A survey of affluent investors by Citigroup Smith Barney found that 35 percent of respondents had 529 plans. Two-thirds had heard of 529 plans, but 40 percent said they were not familiar with them.

The survey polled individuals with at least $100,000 in financial assets excluding real estate and employer retirement plans, a definition that describes approximately one-quarter of all U.S. households.
