As of September 30, 2005, 529 savings plans held $63.4 billion in assets, according to Financial Research Corp. (FRC) and the College Savings Foundation (CSF). That represents a 7.4% increase for the quarter ($59.0 billion at June 30) and a 40.6% increase over the year earlier total of $45.1 billion. Estimated net sales for the third quarter were $3.2 billion, compared with $3.4 billion in the second quarter and $2.2 billion in 2004's third quarter.
