Cerulli releases 529 study
Cerulli Associates has released its second college savings report titled A Competitive Outlook for 529 Savings Plans. Some of its findings: YE 2002 assets in savings programs were at $20 billion (up from $9.2 billion a year ago); average account balance was $6,457; percentage handled through intermediaries was 57% (up from 50% a year ago and 26% two years ago); penetration among children under 18 was 4.3% (up from 2.0% a year ago and 0.8% two years ago).
