Are you currently enrolled in an Income Driven Repayment (IDR) plan? If so, it’s important to recertify your income each year in order to stay on the plan.

However, many borrowers don’t know how to recertify their income correctly. And if you fail to do so, you may see your monthly payments dramatically increase.

Recertify Online

You can quickly and easily recertify your income with the federal government. All you have to do is go to the IDR Plan Request page and log in to “Submit annual re-certification of my income.”

This quick form will verify any changes to your Adjusted Gross Income compared to the previous year. The form will also ask if your family size has changed.

You Don’t Have to Wait

Recertifying your income is an annual requirement to stay enrolled in an IDR plan. However, you do not have to wait for the government to ask for this recertification.

On the same IDR Plan Request page, you can log in to “Recalculate my monthly payment.” This allows you to more quickly notify the government of any changes to your finances or family size. If you have lost your job or otherwise experienced a reduction in income, this allows you to quickly reduce what you owe each month.

Other Options Are Available

As you know, there are multiple IDR plans available. If you are not satisfied with your current plan, it is possible to explore other options.

On the IDR Plan Request page, you can log in to “Switch my current plan to a new plan.” A new plan may help you find repayment plans and terms that are more to your liking.
