College affordability is #1 concern of Americans

A new survey conducted by Public Agenda found that Americans are more concerned about future higher-education costs than any other single issue, including losing their jobs or being able to retire. This is true especially among the economically struggling, 77 percent of whom say they are "very worried" about paying for their child's college education.

Asked what would be "very effective" in in helping people become more economically secure, the survey found 63% of respondents saying that "Making higher education more affordable" would be "very effective" in helping people become more economically secure. By contrast, only 29% felt that subsidized affordable housing would be very effective.
