KFC Colonel’s Scholars Scholarship
Sponsored by: KFC Colonel’s Scholars
Available to: 50 High School seniors
Deadline: Beginning of February each year
Website: http://www.kfcscholars.org/
Contact Email: kfcscholars@act.org
Description: This scholarship is sponsored by KFC’s Colonel’s Kids Charity, a national charity funded by KFC. It is available to high school seniors who plan to attend a public in-state college or university to pursue a bachelor’s degree. The program looks for students with strong entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated financial need. Fifty students will be selected to receive up to $20,000 over four years.
What's Required for the Application: Students must complete the application online at the KFC Scholars website. The program will accept applications from December 1st to February 9th. The application process can be started here. Students will be required to submit information regarding their academics, financial status, leadership and participation, and extracurricular activities. At the end of the application process, submitted applications will be reviewed and semifinalists will be selected. Semifinalists will then be required to submit a copy of their high school transcript, a copy of their SAR from the completed FAFSA, and a letter of recommendation from someone who is not a family member. An independent selection committee will then meet to choose the fifty KFC Scholars, and announcement of recipients will occur in May. Winners of the scholarship will be expected to carry a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester, maintain a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA, and work at an approved job at least 10 hours per week beginning in their second year.
What Makes it Unique: This scholarship offers a significant monetary reward and the application process is relatively straightforward. By limiting the award to those students planning on attending a public in-state institution, the pool of potential applicants is diminished, but only slightly.
