Description: The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship program for outstanding high school students. You must demonstrate leadership in school, civic and extracurricular activities, and academic achievement, as well as the motivation to serve and succeed, to be considered for this award. The Foundation offers the scholarship to high school seniors planning to attend a four-year institution. Each year, the selection committee chooses 200 finalists as Regional Scholars to receive $4,000 and 50 finalists as National Scholars to receive $20,000. The selection process occurs in three phases, beginning in the fall and culminating in the spring with the announcement of the finalists. The foundation also offers four hundred $1,000 one-time scholarships to students planning to attend a two-year college.

What's Required for the Application: Students are required to fill out a number of different applications, depending on how far they advance in the selection process. The first application asks for the student’s overall involvement in school and community activities, as well as academic success. The second application is sent to the roughly 2,000 selected semi-finalists and requires biographical data, an essay, detailed academic information and personal recommendations. The 250 finalists are then chosen and will attend a Scholars Weekend where they will be interviewed and evaluated by the 30-person selection committee to determine the award recipients for each level.

What Makes it Unique: Although this scholarship program is open to a huge pool of potential applicants, it is attractive because of the substantial awards and the large number of recipients. Furthermore, the selection criteria are relatively broad and do not require that you present a minimum GPA or intend to pursue a particular course of study. High school students active in their schools and communities, and who are serious in their academics, would do well to apply for this scholarship.
