Foot Locker Scholar Athletes Program
Sponsored by: Foot Locker Foundation, Inc.
Available to: 20 high school athletes
Deadline: January 9, 2012
Contact Email: email@example.com
Description: Twenty high school athletes will be chosen to each receive $20,000 in scholarship funding for college. All applications will be reviewed by a panel of scholarship experts and celebrity judges before winners are chosen and announced in February. Scholarship money will be divided into increments and disbursed evenly over the duration of the student's 4 year college period. To be eligible, applicants must be currently involved in high school, intramural, or community-based sports, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and be college-bound in the Fall of 2012. Candidates will be judged on how they embody the qualities of a good athlete, as well as how well they are committed to being a leader in their communities.
What's Required for the Application: Students will be required to answer three essay questions, and must also have two recommendations from non-family members. One should be from a current or recent teacher or administrator, and one should be from a current or recent coach, mentor, or teammate.
What Makes it Unique: While this scholarship is aimed at student-athletes, applicants will not be judged on athletic ability alone - but rather, how well they use sports to become a leader and volunteer in their communities.
