America’s biggest summer holiday is almost here! July 4th falls on a Saturday this year, which makes Friday a federal holiday that most of us will spend preparing for the festivities. And by preparing we mean shopping. According to Wallethub, the average household is expected to spend around $346.50 on Independence Day this year. That’s probably more than you expected to pay for some hot dogs, beer and sparklers, which is why the folks at Wallethub suggest creating and sticking to a 4th of July budget. There are unexpected costs that will come up, especially if you plan on travelling. And if you are considering visiting another city, keep in mind that you may end up paying more for things like gas, food and drinks. For example, if you plan on enjoying a few craft beers to celebrate ‘Merica you might be better off doing so in Phoenix, Arizona, which will have some of the lowest food and drink prices. But make sure to bring some extra cash if you’re planning to stay in Virginia Beach, VA, which boasts the highest prices for a 3-star hotel. If you’re lucky enough to be spending the holiday in Minnesota you’ll enjoy some of the best attractions and activities with the best weather.
So where are the best cities in America to celebrate the 4th of July? Wallethub looked at things like weather forecast, duration of fireworks shows, cost of wine and beer and hotel prices to determine which cities give you the best bang (!) for your buck. It may be too late to make travel plans for this weekend, but this could give you an idea of what to budget for next year.
