Throughout the month of May, you’ve probably been hearing a lot about 529 college plans. Every year during the weeks leading up to 5/29 (529 Day), the college savings industry promotes the benefits of these plans and encourages American families to start saving for future tuition costs. If you’ve been paying attention, you already know that by investing in a 529 plan, your earnings will grow tax-free and your withdrawals will also avoid taxes if they are used toward college expenses. Your state may also be running special promotions for those who enroll in their plans and offer additional state tax incentives.
