Today is Thursday, which means that this week's episode of the new hit TV show "Touch" will air tonight. Touch is about a young boy, part savant and part clairvoyant, who is able to tie together people and events around the world by deciphering numbers.

Naturally, this got me thinking about "529" and wondering if there is any significance to this particular number. What I discovered was interesting, perhaps even a little eerie.

The only number that divides evenly into 529 is the number 23. In fact, 23 is the square root of 529. So big deal, right? Well it certainly could be a big deal, depending on your predilection to numerology, because of something known as "the 23 enigma."

According to Wikipedia, the 23 enigma is the belief that most incidents and events are directly connected to the number 23, some modification of the number 23, or a number related to the number 23. There is probably no number more related to the number 23 than the number 529. Remember, 23 times 23 equals 529.

I've always argued that Section 529 plans have special powers, and now the 23 enigma backs up that claim. It should be easy to convince the moviegoers among you:

  • The 2007 film The Number 23, starring Jim Carrey, is the story of a man who becomes obsessed with the number 23 while reading a book of the same title that seems to be about his life.
  • In The Matrix Reloaded, the Architect tells Neo it is of utmost importance to choose 23 people to repopulate Zion.
  • In Jeepers Creepers, the Creeper appears every 23 years for 23 days to feast on human flesh.

And don't forget, human sex cells have 23 chromosomes. Need I say more?
