Celebrate 529 Day!

So what are you doing to celebrate 529 College Savings Day? Many states are promoting May 29 (5/29) as a day with special meaning, and are looking to boost interest and participation in their 529 savings programs with various sweepstakes, contests and incentives.

Here is what Savingforcollege.com is doing:

SavingforCollege.com Twitter Party

Savingforcollege.com is hosting a "twitter party" focused on 529 college savings plans to celebrate 529 day.
Anyone with questions on 529 plans can join in the conversation on May 29th by following @saving4college using the hashtag #529Day, and be eligible for prizes.
Prizes include 5 signed soft-cover copies of Joe Hurley’s Family Guide to College Savings, and one grand prize winner will be selected to receive a $52.90 gift into the 529 plan of his/her choice.

Deadline: Register for the party by submitting your email and twitter handle by 2:00 PM EST on May 29, 2012. The party itself take place between 2-3 PM on May 29.

Connecticut: CHET Dream Big! Competition

In an essay or drawing, children in Kindergarten - 5th grade living in Connecticut can enter to win a $300 CHET direct-sold 529 account.
The drawing (for K-3 entrants) should answer the question "What do I want to do after I go to college?"
The essay (for grades 4 and 5) should answer the question "How will I change the world after I go to college?"
Up to 96 winners will receive CHET $300 direct-sold accounts.

Geogria: Path2College 529 Plan Newborn Sweepstakes

Nebraska: NEST 529 Day Offers

New accounts opened in May will be automatically entered into a drawing to award winners $529 each to be deposited into their NEST account
Account owners who initiate a rollover of funds from a non-Nebraska 529 Plan into a NEST account will be eligible to receive a $50 bonus.
Nebraska middle school students can enter the "Focus on a Career" essay contest and be eligible to receive one of 10 $1000 scholarships into a NEST account.

Nevada $529 College Savings Day Contest

Five students will receive a $529 gift to be used to open a college savings account.
To enter, you must complete the sentence "I want to go to college so I can become a ________" and either submit a drawing of your career choice or a 50 word essay about the career choice.
Open to Nevada kindergarten - 5th grade students.

Oklahoma College Savings Plan Newborn Sweepstakes

Enter for a chance to win $5,529 towards an Oklahoma College Savings Plan.
Eligible participants include Oklahoma residents who have a child or grandchild born in 2011 at a participating Oklahoma hospital.
One entrant will win the grand prize on behalf of his or her newborn child or grandchild, and one prize of $1,529 will be awarded to the volunteer auxiliary at the Oklahoma hospital of the winning newborn.

Oregon College Savings Plan Education Celebration Award
