Why should I be interested in being listed in the Find a 529 Pro Directory?
Savingforcollege.com receives daily requests from individuals looking for personalized help in saving for future college costs and using 529 plans. With all the different investment alternatives, and tax and ownership considerations, the process of developing and implementing a college funding strategy becomes very confusing for many people. Yet with the high price of college it is vitally important. Savingforcollege.com does not offer personalized planning and advice but we want to help people locate competent professional services. The Find a 529 Pro Directory will do just that.

What information will be contained on my listing?
A "Basic" level Directory listing will include your name, credentials, company, title, disclaimer (if required by your compliance department), state(s) that you are registered and/or licensed in, address, telephone, fax, a link to your personal or company web site, and e-mail address.
For an additional cost per year, you may request a "Platinum" listing that contains all basic features plus the opportunity to describe your services and specialized expertise, larger font, and you will be highlighted.

What is required in order to be listed?
First, you must (i) personally be in the business of providing investment, legal, or tax services or products to individual clients; (ii) pay an annual listing fee to Savingforcollege.com LLC (“SFC”); (iii) pass an examination regarding 529 Plans and related topics, administered by SFC; and (iv) agree to 529 Pro Directory Listing Agreement.

How do you know that I have enough knowledge about 529 plans to advise clients?
We give you 25 questions electronic exam that test your knowledge of 529 plans and related college planning topics. It is administered "open book" style. You must pass our test before being listed in the Find a 529 Pro Directory. Note that this exam does not confer any type of certification, title, or license. It is merely our way of ensuring a good working level of knowledge in this particular area. Also, tests will be administered each year with the renewal of your listing or you will have the option of logging 6 hours of continuing education credits in your "My Account" section of the website. This will ensure each 529 Pro is up-to-date on this ever-changing industry.

Is there additional training available from Savingforcollege.com?
Joe Hurley also hosts the quarterly 529 Pro Teleconference which is designed especially for you and at no additional charge beyond the toll cost of the call! The 529 Pro teleconferences will provide us with an opportunity to demonstrate the tools and content available to you through your 529 Pro Solutions subscription, discuss enhancements to the Find a 529 Pro Directory, and address any questions or suggestions you might have. Our goals are straightforward: 1. We want to make the Directory as effective as possible in attracting new client prospects for you. 2. We want to be sure you know how to use the resources developed by Savingforcollege.com to your clients' best advantage.

Is there a different exam for different types of 529 "Pros" (financial planner versus attorney, for example)?
No, the same exam questions are used regardless of profession. The questions are designed to demonstrate your working knowledge of all aspects of 529 plans and related topics. We believe you should have this knowledge to effectively advise your clients regardless of the specific type of advice you provide.

Does my professional practice have to be devoted to college planning?
Not at all. But the reason people will come to you is because they believe you have specialized knowledge in this area that many other financial professionals may lack. We know from experience that section 529 planning is something that not all planners are comfortable with. This is why we believe it's a great opportunity for you.

There are 30 professionals in my office. Can we just list our company?
No, the listing must contain the name of the individual professional. We want our visitors to be able to contact someone, not some company. Is my listing going to be exclusive for my geographic area?
No, we are not providing "exclusives". However, we do want to control the size of the listing to ensure that you stay within a select group of professionals, and not one that includes every college planning professional in the country. The way we are going to do this is through pricing (the American free enterprise way, of course). Once Find a 529 Pro Directory has grown to include a 529 Pro in most cities and geographic areas, we plan on increasing the listing price. This will keep the number manageable and maintain exclusivity.

When will my listing start and end?
After registration, the 529 Pro Testing link in "Manage Account" section of the website will be active. After completeing and passing the exam your listing will become active. Your listing will remain active in the Directory until your 529 Pro Solutions subscription expires or until you no longer meet the testing/continuing education requirements.
