Virginia College America adds target date options
(September 14, 2012) - Virginia's College America 529 Savings Plan added the American Funds College Target Date Series to its list of investment options today. The Series includes seven portfolios of underlying mutual funds corresponding to the number of years to expected enrollment based on the age of the beneficiary. As each fund approaches its target date, it will increasingly emphasize income and preservation of capital by investing a greater portion of its assets in bond, equity-income and balanced funds, eventually investing principally in fixed-income funds.
CollegeAmerica is the largest 529 plan in the nation, but has never before offered the "age-based" option featured by most other 529 savings plans.
