529 plans grow 10% in first quarter 2012
(June 6, 2012) - Financial Research Corporation (FRC) reports that assets in 529 college savings plans (excluding prepaid plans) grew to $158.3 billion at March 31, 2012, a 9.6% gain from $144.4 billion at December 31, 2011.
Compared to March 31, 2011, this year's Q1 assets stood 8.1% higher.
Net inflows into 529 plans (contributions less distributions) for 2012's first quarter were $2.9 billion, compared to $2.4 billion during the fourth quarter of 2011 and $3.3 billion during the first quarter of 2011.
