White House asks Treasury for 529-plan improvements
(April 20, 2009) - The Obama administration's Middle Class Task Force, headed by Vice President Joe Biden, has asked task force member Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to study 529 plans and look for ways in which these college-savings plan can be made more effective and reliable. A similar request went to the Secretary of Education. A press release by the White House can be read HERE.
The Middle Class Task Force also released a staff report focusing on the challenges of paying for college in America today.
The Task Force and the Treasury Department are expected to release their findings and recommendations before the beginning of the next school year.
