President Bush signs higher-education reauthorization bill
(August 15, 2008) - It's taken five years and 14 extensions, but the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act is now complete. President Bush signed the huge bill (HR 4137) yesterday.
The law creates a number of new grant programs for both students and colleges, eliminates conflicts of interest in student-loan programs, creates a "watch list" to shame colleges into keeping their prices low, and makes more for-profit colleges eligible for the federal student aid programs.
