Tennessee now treats all 529s equally
(May 20, 2004) - Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen has signed legislation (HB 2953) exempting all 529 plans and educational savings accounts from Tennessee's gift tax and the Hall tax on interest and dividends. The law becomes effective immediately and resolves the difficult tax compliance problems faced by Tennessee residents investing in out-of-state 529 plans.
