Wisconsin extends tax deduction to great-grandparents, aunts, and uncles
(April 21, 2004) - Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle has signed legislation (AB209) that expands the list of eligible claimants for the state income tax deduction on contributions to Wisconsin-sponsored 529 programs. Effective January 1, 2004, great-grandparents of the account beneficiary, along with aunts and uncles, may claim the maximum annual $3,000 per beneficiary state tax deduction. Prior to 2004, only parents and grandparents were eligible.
