FDIC expands deposit insurance coverage for 529s
(May 23, 2005) - The FDIC has adopted an interim final rule to conform to what some 529 plans were already telling their participants -- $100,000 deposit insurance coverage is applied per participant account. Prior to the rule change, it had been determined that insurance coverage applied per program and not per participant.
