College Board releases annual college pricing and financial aid reports

(October 26, 2004) - The College Board has released Trends in College Pricing 2004 and Trends in Student Aid 2004.

The college pricing survey found that average tuition and fees for the 2004/05 school year increased 10.5% at public four-year universities, 8.7% at public two-year colleges, and 6.0% at private four-year colleges.

About three-quarters of full-time undergraduates receive some form of financial aid. While a significant portion of financial aid is loans, the College Board estimates that in 2003-04, the combination of grant aid and federal tax benefits averaged about $2,300 per student in public two-year colleges, over $3,300 at public four-year institutions, and about $9,400 per student at private four-year colleges.
