State officials mulling closure of Wyoming 529

Wyoming newspapers have reported that the state's 529 saving program, College Achievement Plan, may be transferred to a new program manager or terminated. Current manager Mercury Advisors, a unit of Merrill Lynch, is not interested in continuing on, according to the state's Treasurer. The program has not succeeded in attracting significant assets and is generally regarded as one of the highest-cost 529 plans available. If terminated, current program participants would presumably be encouraged to roll over their accounts to another state's 529 plan.
