Only the account owner may claim the Wisconsin 529 deduction
(March 10, 2011) - The Wisconsin Department of Revenue has ruled that a grandfather cannot claim the Wisconsin state income tax deduction for contributions made to a Wisconsin 529 account with his grandchild as beneficiary because the grandfather was not the owner of the account. The grandfather would have to set up his own account and make contributions to that account.
